Please take a moment to watch this TEDTalks video, it is much more than just a listening exercise:

Jackson Katz: Violence against women—it’s a men’s issue

Schermata 05-2456442 alle 18.04.53

Jackson Katz is co-founder of Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP), which enlists men in the struggle to prevent men’s violence against women.

The key sentence of his talk is the following:

In the end, what’ll hurt the most is not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.

Martin Luther King.

MVP fosters the so called bystander attitude, that is the same attitude which is recommended in case of bullying for instance: the bystander, the witness, must “speak up”, become a positive leader . Silence, as M.L.K. said, is what hurts the most, especially the silence of our friends.
