LONDON in TimeLapse

Lewis Symonds, a 16-year-old student, spent five days in London for the Easter holidays and while there took 10,600 photos of the most famous places in the city.

7,500 of them then became a five-minute TimeLapse video. Awesome! Is anyone of you going to  do the same soon? That would be great :-).

In the meantime, enjoy the video.

Slow Life

Have you ever seen a coral or a sponge “move”? It is a slow process,” only detectable at different time scales compared to ours and requires time lapses to be seen”. (Daniel Stoupin)

Watch this awesome time lapse video, by a university of Queensland (Australia) student and enjoy the beauty of the Great Barrier Reef.

EARTH DAY 2014

Earth Day is celebrated every year one month and two days after the vernal equinox, i.e. today, April 22. (read more….)

Let’s remember the beauty of our planet first with a video by NASA, created with photos shot in 2013 from its orbiting satellites.

And then with an animated film dating 2011 by Adam Winnick, a Canadian college student, who illustrated a book called Pale Blue Dot by the scientist Carl Sagan.

Look closely at the image below and you will see a blue dot, lost in the blackness of the Universe. That’s us, right there, right now.

St. Patrick’s Day

Look how nice the London Eye looked for St Patrick’s Day, all green and shiny!

Green London Eye

May the Irish hills caress you;
may her lakes and rivers bless you;
may the luck of the Irish enfold you;
may the blessings of Saint Patrick, behold you.

St Patrick- or Phadraic-  is the Apostle of Ireland and he is remembered all over the world every year with parades, fun runs and festivals.

The Irish like telling jokes that include other British characters, such as Scotsmen and Englishmen, who usually end up being the target of the joke, as in the following example:

An Englishman, an Irishman and a Scotsman were reading a newspaper article about which nationalities’ brains were for sale for transplant purposes. An Irishman’s or a Scotsman’s brain could be bought for €500 but an Englishman’s brain cost €10,000. That proves,’ said The Englishman, ‘that Englishmen are much cleverer than Irishmen or Scotsmen.’
‘No it doesn’t,’ said The Irishman, ‘it just means that an Englishman’s brain has never been used.’

Wonderful! A bird turned cameraman

A striated caracara flies off with a spy egg-camera and captures the first ever aerial footage of a rockhopper penguin colony shot by a flying bird. Amazing!

A video from London

My (very) modest attempt at video-making, to share with you the beauty of Great Britain’s capital city.

Schermata 01-2456663 alle 17.03.48Auld Lang Syne is traditionally sung to celebrate the start of the New Year at the stroke of midnight.

Here are the lyrics.

Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and old lang syne?

CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

And surely you’ll buy your pint cup!
and surely I’ll buy mine!
And we’ll take a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

CHORUS

We two have run about the slopes,
and picked the daisies fine;
But we’ve wandered many a weary foot,
since auld lang syne.

CHORUS

We two have paddled in the stream,
from morning sun till dine;
But seas between us broad have roared
since auld lang syne.

CHORUS

And there’s a hand my trusty friend!
And give me a hand o’ thine!
And we’ll take a right good-will draught,
for auld lang syne.

CHORUS
